  By Paula Rochon I walked about 13 km on the Georgian Trail between Thornbury and Meaford, Ontario near the coast of Georgian Bay last year, just as we were heading into winter. The trail was created along an abandoned railway line and is now dedicated to those wishing to hike and bike in the summer, and to snowshoe and cross-country ski in the winter. One victim fell was thrown from his bike on this sidewalk after an out-of-control U-Haul driver struck him. The victim died from his injuries. The man was one of eight people hit. The driver remains in custody. [ more › ]

No charges for Vancouver officer believed to have broken suspect’s jaw during arrest

A Vancouver police officer won’t face criminal charges for allegedly breaking numerous bones in a suspect’s face during a 2020 arrest. The BC Prosecution Service said Friday (Feb. 10) they couldn’t determine beyond a reasonable doubt that the officer used excessive force. The incident dates back to the early hours of Sept. 20, 2020, when officers were called to a residential Vancouver neighbourhood for a suspicious man report.
