Hemet man arrested in assault of minor at Riverside community center

A 22-year-old Hemet man accused of assaulting a teenage girl at a Riverside community center was arrested, police announced Thursday, May 26.

The incident happened on April 15 at 2:26 p.m. at Orange Terrace Park Community Center at 20010 Orange Terrace Parkway, the Riverside Police Department said in a news release. Police declined to release further details into the nature of the assault.

Through tips from the community, police were able to identify Robert Bates as the suspect, authorities said. Bates was arrested in Perris on Tuesday, May 24, on suspicion of contacting a minor for sex, contacting a minor with the intent to commit an offense and attempted rape of a minor 14 years old or younger, according to Riverside County jail logs.
