After another topsy turvy year, our home-grown talent is more than ready to shine alongside a stellar selection of intersate and international performers as Perth comes out of hibernation to celebrate the world’s third-largest FRINGE WORLD (not bad right?!) from 14 January to 13 February 2022.
Prepare to be dazzled, with 436 shows on offer across 90 venues scattered all around Perth, as well as the return of iconic pop-up FRINGE WORLD venues like The Woodside Pleasure Garden.
The full program has just been released, so we’ve saved you some time by rounding up some of the most fabulous picks. Here are 10 of the best shows to see at FRINGE WORLD 2022.
Godz
Tickets: $34-$39
These gorgeous men have gained legendary status in WA with their unique meddling of jaw-dropping acrobats, creative storytelling and sexy stunts. This year, they’re returning in the form of Grecian Gods, so whip out your toga and get ready to smash some plates. Their strength will have you gasping, and their show will leave you hooked.
DIVAS–The Drag Revue: Fierce and Fabulous
Tickets: $35-$40
The show promises ‘big hair, big boobs, big vocals and big dance moves.’ Add in a couple of spicy margs and some 90s bangers, and you’re in for one helluva night. Better fire up the group chat now.
A Seated Walking Tour of Western Europe: Andrew McClelland
Tickets: $36-$42
McClelland is getting us as close to European summer as we’ll be getting for a while, thanks to his trusty Google Street view giving us a tour of the very best monuments and cities (without the sore feet and overpriced beers). This talented man has not only performed worldwide but is a multi-awarded winning funny-man and the head DJ at Melbourne’s number one nightclub.
Briefs: Bite Club
Tickets: $47-$57
Briefs has gained a cult following in its 10+ years at Perth Fringe World so we’re glad to see the boys back again after being locked out in Brisbane last year. If you're not familiar, think big men in tiny shorts, leotards, glitter, and plenty of feathers. Tickets for this one go FAST, so book now and get the sequins and dance moves ready.
Comedy Hypnotist Male Hale: Absolute Chaos!
Tickets: $25-$40
Matt is a veteran of Fringe, selling out back to back shows every damn year with his uniquely hilarious brand of group hypnosis. He will make you laugh, dance, say bizarre things and leave you grateful you came, if not a little confused where you are.
Cabaret Le Papillion
For two nights only, this unique adults-only open-mic cabaret variety show is coming to everyone’s favourite late night spot, Connections, to tease, inspire and delight. Expect a steamy celebration of body positivity and self-expression as new and established burlesque acts trial out their hot new material.
Yuck Circus: DEADSET
Tickets: $32-$34
If you blinked, you would have missed out on tickets to Deadset last January, so fortunately they are bringing this magnificent, daring, cheeky performance back to our shores. These incredibly talented artists have been titled ‘Flight of the Conchords meets Cirque du Soleil’ so you’d feel YUCK if you miss them.
Funked Up Brass–Ladies of the 80s!
Tickets: $40
This world premier promises shoulder pads, bike shorts, mullets and big hair on their journey to take you back through the musical prowess of some of the world’s most celebrated female power artists. It’s late-night karaoke meets New Orleans brass, as Matilda Simcock and her band drive you through all those iconic 80s hits we pretend not to love.
King of Comedy (UK)
Tickets: $21
Kyle Legacy is a crass, straight-talking, no BS Brit that has appeared at Edinburgh, on Russel Brand’s TV show ‘Brand X’ and everywhere in between. This is for those who want a cheap no-frills night of laughs and are ready to keep the wines or beers flowing. No one is safe in the audience, and no topic is too rude.
Life Drawing with a Comedian: Laugh Mob
Tickets: $25
We love an interactive night out, so when you cross some creative flair with an ever-changing line up of international comedians, you know you’re in for an adventure. The life model will attempt to stay serious while you get to bring out your inner artist while laughing the night away
